Our volunteers tend to stay with us a long time, because we invest time in developing and encouraging everyone in making their unique contribution. You will be part of a team, comprising people of all ages, skills and experiences.
Volunteering for Exodus is fun and rewarding. There are so many roles from administration, maintenance and gardening at our activity centre – Jenny’s Field, to cooking, cleaning and leading games in clubs and on camps.
We also have a charity shop, which offers the opportunity to gain retail experience, but a social and volunteering outlet for many who might not want to work with children in the clubs and camps.
We rely on the services of volunteers to help look after the children in clubs and on camps providing the attention they need. There is a role for everyone and training and support is provided from our experienced staff and adult volunteers. The role of the volunteer in weekly clubs and on weekend camps is varied and exiting. The main aim is to get alongside the children and young people in whatever they are doing and to be an encourager.
Just a few of the things volunteers will need to look for:
- To give encouragement to a child who has low self-expectations.
- To listen to a child who may be worried or unhappy.
- To spot and avert possible trouble or danger.
Volunteer opportunities
Clubs…We have a production line of Junior Volunteers emerging from our Rock Solid youth groups but we are always on the look out for more experienced adult volunteers to work in our weekly activity clubs and on weekend camps. Clubs occur in various locations Monday to Thursday in term time, and weekend camps happen monthly, usually the first weekend of every month. The role of the volunteer is to be alongside the children, lead activities where you have the skills and confidence, or just support the club leader in supervising and enthusing the children who come. There really is a role for everyone, whatever your level of confidence and experience is.
Camps…On weekend camps you can come for the whole weekend or just come and lead a particular session. So, if you’re a good cook, you could come and lead a cooking session with the children. If you’d rather not teach, just come and help prepare the camp meals. If you’re into crafts, you can come for a couple of hours and lead a craft workshop for example. Whatever your skill or experience, if it will be fun or educational for kids (preferable both) we would be very grateful for your time.
Charity Shop…We have a charity shop in Cudworth which presents a whole different volunteer experience. Here you can gain retail experience for the world of work, or just come and enjoy the social side of meeting with customers and helping them pick out a bargain, all the while raising funds for our work with the kids.
Jenny’s Field…This is the name of our headquarters and weekend activity centre. As you can imagine, maintaining large premises and two acres of land requires a lot of volunteers. If you have administration skills, cleaning skills, gardening or maintenance skills, we would like to hear from you. Again, it’s a welcoming and supportive environment, where you will be helped to make a positive contribution to our overall work.
Please consider helping us in whatever way you can.
